Absolute Zero Expert Survey
An integral part of the Absolute Zero national outreach campaign is an informal Speakers Bureau comprised of experts in the field of low-temperature physics. Drawn from academia, businesses and the research community, these individuals provide invaluable insight regarding this unique area of scientific exploration and hopefully inspire the next generation of scientists.
Absolute Zero Experts may serve as mentors; participate in educational, after-school and community events; or make presentations before professional organizations leading up to the broadcast of the PBS documentaries, which are expected to premiere in spring 2007. Absolute Zero Experts may also assist in answering online questions on the campaign Web site.
The national outreach campaign is underwritten by the National Science Foundation and supported by a number of national organizations (see below). Experts are being drawn from their membership and from other interested parties. For more details about the campaign, please log on to www.absolutezerocampaign.org.
Absolute Zero Experts will be able to use outreach materials available on the Absolute Zero Web site including a Professional Science Outreach Guide and a Community Education Outreach Guide that includes a wide variety of low-temperature presentations and experiments aimed at students in middle school. An Absolute Zero Webinar (coming soon) will provide additional tips on making low-temperature physics come alive.
We hope you will consider participating in this important endeavor by becoming an Absolute Zero Expert. Please complete the attached short survey and return to Allan Childers, project manager, Devillier Communications, Inc. (firstname.lastname@example.org). Thank you for your consideration.

Absolute Zero Experts FAQ
What is expected from an Absolute Zero Expert?
This program is strictly voluntary. We appreciate whatever time you are able to commit to the campaign. The goal is to inspire and bring to students the fascinating world of low-temperature physics. As an Absolute Zero Expert, we would ask that you send us a brief report after each presentation. Where and to whom did you speak? With whom did you work? What was the response?
Make presentations about Absolute Zero and low-temperature physics.
Absolute Zero Experts are individuals who are available to speak at local schools, libraries, science centers, children’s museums and other public forums. As part of your presentation, we will ask that you mention the upcoming special, Absolute Zero, which will be broadcast on public television stations and available to both classroom and informal educators.
Work with Absolute Zero National Partners and Participants.
The National Partners are aware of the campaign and may seek experts to help with local or regional presentations. For example, the Association of Science-Technology Centers (ASTC), which is the largest association of science museums in the world, is encouraging its members to conduct low-temperature presentations around the broadcast. Absolute Zero Experts may want to team up with a local chapter of the Society of Physics Students (SPS) and/or the American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT), which are focusing on low-temperature physics in the coming year. For additional information about the Partners and the campaign, please log on to www.absolutezerocampaign.org or contact Allan Childers at email@example.com.
Participate in online discussion boards; respond to online questions.
The campaign Web site will feature an online discussion board that will encourage a dialogue among students, educators and scientists. We hope you will participate in this important outreach effort.
Share your outreach tips.
Coming this fall will be an Absolute Zero Webinar led by several outstanding scientists/educators. Viewers will receive tips on how to conduct effective and entertaining low-temperature physics presentations. We encourage you to share with us your experience in this field.
